Square Dancing Sponsors
Square dancing started in the early days of North Carolina, when settlers came from all corners of Europe and of the world. They brought their culture with them and the national dances were a representative part of those cultures. They mixed parts of these dances and brought square dancing to life. Ever since, square dancing has been a representative part of the American culture, a true American institution. People from lands as far as Japan are thrilled to watch square dancing and to learn it.
Because it such a representative thing for American culture and identity, just like bluegrass and folk music in general, it is important that there is enough support so that these cultural IDs do not die out. They are a slice of history and a sample of the national creativity. They mean tradition and future should be built on tradition. Many people already agree with that and their presence at folk festivals and events speaks volumes. This is why sponsoring such event should be encouraged.
