Country Music and Square Dancing

Country music is strongly connected with square dancing and actually it goes the other way around too! Square dance is a folk dance with four couples positioned so that they actually form a square. There's traditional square dance and modern Western square dance. While traditional square dance is usually performed to old time music such as folk music from Quebec, Wales, England and Scotland, modern Western square dancing is often performed to country music and other types of music too. The music variety can sometimes go as far as techno. Square dancing to country music is very popular and widespread. Country music has many varieties and sub-genres, so there's a great variety of square dancing accompanied by country music too. You even have country soul, country pop and country rock. Outlaw country and honky tonk influences are also widespread and very popular. It follows that these two artistic forms of expression that are so emblematic for the American culture not only go well together but can become inseparable.
