Fans of square dancing have surely heard of the Watermelon Festival in Florida. It takes place every June and it is really popular with people who travel from all states to take part in it. Some of them choose hotel accommodation and others just go with camping. Most of them come along with friends and family, for this festival is all about enjoying quality time among loved ones. Free fresh sliced watermelon, live entertainment, plus numerous craft and food vendors to fill your day: early morning watermelon weigh-in, then square dancers and bands playing, parades, the official opening ceremony including the introduction of Watermelon Royalty and watermelon auction; seed spitting contest, watermelon eating contest and many more fun activities, topped by even more entertaining square dancing. The festival is held on the first Saturday in June, but it is wise to make reservations and arrangements well in advance, especially if you're planning to participate in the square dancing.
